Sales for Kim Hyun Joong’s Japan Debut Album Soar

We’ll never get tired of announcing things like this: Kim Hyun Joong broke records in Japan with his debut album Kiss Kiss/Lucky Guy.

Kiss Kiss/Lucky Guy was released on January 25, and sold 72,000 copies on that day alone. The numbers are the highest recorded in a day for any overseas artist in Japan since March 2009, when Oricon started releasing daily charts.

The Oricon Chart posted on its webpage Oricon Style about how surprised it was about Kim’s new record on January 25.

The ordinary version and the two limited versions of the single album even each came in first, third and sixth on Tower Records’ single chart, which compiles data from all branches in Japan.

The big storm started up by Kim could’ve been anticipated, however, as Kim was already the first solo K-Pop singer to top the mobile daily chart on Recochoku with his single Kiss Kiss. His singles Lucky GuyU and Breakdown also previously made it into the top 20 of the chart.

Kim will be performing in music programs such as TV Asahi’s Music Station on January 27, and on February 5 he will hold a concert, Premium Live 2012, with 20,000 of his fans to commemorate the release of his new album.
